36 Reasons Why You should attend Monrovia schools...

Four and a half years ago I was given the opportunity to ride a bicycle from Canada to Mexico. I had not been on a bike since I was 9 years old and I was approaching 54. Bicycles had changed a lot since the days of my 22 inch Schwinn with the banana seat and the sissy bar. After the first grueling miles of road work, I finally was able to get in the swing, and pain, of long distance riding. Over the coarse of 18 days, the group traveled 1,688 miles from British Columbia to the Mexico border. It was during this ride that I started to think about taking a bicycle trip across the country. I was trying to visualize the experience the settlers had  of crossing our vast country in something other than the modern way of planes, trains, and automobiles. Given the difficulty of locating a covered wagon and a team of oxen, I settled on using human power and my bicycle to have an up-close and personal experience of navigating over 3000 miles of roads from the west coast of California to the east coast of Florida.

When I tell people about this adventure there are two main responses. First is usually, “Are you crazy?,” and the second is “What are you going to raise money for?” The first answer is easy. No, I am not crazy. The second question took a minute to fully answer. The answer to the second question is “I Ride For You”. I wanted to raise money and awareness for The PTAs in our community, as well as promote other educational non-profit groups in our town.

“I Ride For You” is my way of raising money for the PTA and giving back to our community, which has given me so much. I know everyone would like to be able to help make our PTAs stronger and bolster other groups that work very hard to make the lives of people in our community better.

Your gift, in any dollar amount ($1, $5, $10 or more) to the PTA, or any of the other worthwhile organizations, will benefit the people in our town. Together we ALL make a positive difference. “I Ride For You”
